Underneath is my own exibition of photos taken by Vivian Maiers. I enjoyed this exhibiton because it allowed me to experiment with different formats and layouts for photos that arent considered conventional for a normal exhibition. In the future however, I would collborate with people and try out different locations and angles to get a whole new perspective. My exhibition is inspired by this specific selfie (shown on the left) taken by Vivine, as I found the viewpoint abstract and exciting to look at.

Frederic Douglaus and historic selfies
Frederick douglaus was born in February 1818 and passed away in February 1895. He was an escaped slave and became a well known activist in the abolishment movement, as well as being an author and public speaking. A daguerroetype is a kind of unique photograph that is on a polished metal plate. Douglaus might of wanted portraits of himself so that he could of been remembered by people in the future and inspire them for all of the work he had done for example his influence on the abolishment movement. Douglass used photographs of himself to fight back against the racial prejudices that existed in the United States. Every photograph that he had taken of himself became an opportunity to show America an image of a black person that went against the accepted stereotype racist image that most people had. |
