The phrase make do and mend suggests that you should deal with what you already have, make something new out of it via recycling it or mending something that it has previously been broken and could still be in use. Due to the recent pandemic our lives have had to adapt to new ways of living such as wearing masks, sanitising our hands and reducing the amount of contact we have with others. These new rules have previously been known as 'the new normal'. However, these new restrictions mean that we can be more creative in our work with being limited to location such as being in our homes more, and working around what we have available. We can also reflect the restrictions into our photos for example, focusing on the masks we have to wear and photographing them in unique ways.

Marcel Duchamp & the ReadymadeThe Mona Lisa is a painting done by Leonardo Da Vinci in the Renaissance period of a Florentino woman in the 1500s. It is famous for many reasons but one of the main ones was that it was stolen by Vincenzo Peruggia on August 21st 1911 and was lost for two years before returning to it place in the French museum ‘the louvre’ in Paris.
It was such a revolutionary idea as it meant artists could take old works themselves or someone else had already made and upgrade/recycle it into something more modern and unique to a new artist. This links to our Make do and mend project as it is finding what already exists and looking at the different, new and many ways we can improve it.
